Recently, customs clearance operations at Shanghai's Wusong Port have remained uninterrupted despite the festive season. At the Jungong Road Dock, 86 domestically produced "Sany" excavators were successfully loaded onto a vessel under the supervision of the Wusong Customs, a subdivision of Shanghai Customs (hereinafter referred to as "Shanghai Wusong Customs"), destined for Turkey, a country actively engaged in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Prior to this shipment, 150 "Sany" excavators had already embarked on their journey aboard the "Baoshan Star".
Since the beginning of 2024, Shanghai's Zhanghuabang and Jungong Road docks have witnessed a surge in exports to countries participating in the BRI. In January alone, the two docks exported 237,400 tonnes of goods to these countries, marking a 30% year-on-year increase.
Amid the holiday season, Shanghai Wusong Customs has maintained its commitment to ensuring efficient customs clearance. To facilitate the smooth export of goods during the Spring Festival, the customs office collaborated closely with the port area, Hanxin Shipping Company, and shippers, maintaining real-time communication on logistics dynamics. Based on the arrival of goods, inspection and quarantine schedules were arranged, integrating the supervision process into the logistics flow to maximize service support.
Compared to ordinary cargo, exports under the BRI framework often involve large quantities of high-value goods, posing greater challenges for supervision. Shanghai Wusong Customs has established a follow-up mechanism for major BRI projects, adopting proactive interventions and policy guidance to provide comprehensive services for the export of self-owned brands. Tailored customs clearance solutions were devised according to the characteristics of exported goods, streamlining inspection procedures and smoothing the "chain" of customs clearance. The customs office leveraged the combined benefits of convenient measures such as "7x24-hour" appointment inspections and unattended inspections, while assigning experienced staff to provide end-to-end tracking, ensuring "immediate response to difficulties and zero waiting time for requests."
"Initially, we were concerned about the adverse weather conditions potentially affecting our exports, but thanks to the full support of Shanghai Wusong Customs, both shipments were dispatched on time," said a responsible person from Hanxin Shipping Company.
Through seamless connections across multiple departments and links, Shanghai Wusong Customs has helped reduce logistics costs such as shipping and storage for enterprises, enabling "Made in China" self-owned brands to fully benefit from low-loss, low-cost, and high-efficiency customs clearance services. This provides robust support for enhancing the international competitiveness of "Made in China" products.
